Noordwijk beach offers everything you need for a wonderful day by the sea.
Whether you want to take a dip in the fresh waves of the North Sea or sunbathe, there are a few things to keep in mind to make your day carefree.
Below we give our guests some important tips for a safe and enjoyable seaside swimming experience.

1. Weather Conditions and Tides

The North Sea can change quickly.
Therefore, always check the weather forecast and water temperature before swimming.
Be aware of the tides – low tides can cause strong currents, especially at low tide.
The best time to swim is often around high tide, when the currents are less powerful.

2. Currents and Mains

An important feature of the North Sea is its mussels: strong currents that pull water back out to sea.
If you find yourself in such a current, stay calm and swim parallel to shore to get out of the mui.
Avoid swimming against the current.

3. Lifeguard and Safety Flags.

Swimming near a lifeguard station is always safest.
Pay close attention to the flags: a red flag means swimming is prohibited, and a yellow flag warns of dangerous conditions.
Make sure you are well-informed about safety before entering the water.

4. Swimming Safety and Equipment

  • Stay in sight of others: Never swim alone.
Especially for children, it is important to always stay within sight of adults.
  • Use life jackets: For children and less experienced swimmers, a life jacket is an additional safety measure.
  • Don’t swim too far into the sea: The waves and currents can be treacherous.
Stay within a safe distance from shore, especially with children.

5. Temperature of Water

The North Sea can be chilly, even in summer.
This can cause cold shock.
Make sure your body gets used to the temperature slowly by entering the water slowly.
Consider a wetsuit to stay in the water longer without getting cold.

6. Sun Protection

  • Use water-resistant sunscreen with a high SPF to protect your skin even on cloudy days.
  • Wear a hat or shirt when not in the water, and make sure you drink enough to stay hydrated.

7. Watch Animals in the North Sea

Jellyfish: can sometimes occur on the coast, especially in the warmer months.
Although most jellyfish are harmless, some stings can be painful.
Should you get stung, rinse the area with water and consult a doctor if necessary. Seals: Sometimes seals may appear near swimmers.
They are usually curious but not aggressive.
However, it is advisable to keep your distance.

8. Waste and Environment

Enjoy the beautiful beach of Noordwijk, but respect nature.
Always bring your trash and help keep the beach clean.
Together we ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy nature.

9. Children and Safety

It is important that children are always supervised while swimming.
In addition, agree with your child that should he or she lose you, they will go to the nearest beach bar and ask for help there.
The staff can quickly get the right help and make sure you find each other again.

10. And of course… enjoy!

Don’t forget to enjoy all that the Noordwijk beach has to offer.
Take a swim in the North Sea, build sandcastles with the children, or enjoy a snack and drink in one of the cozy beach bars.
After a day full of sun, sea and beach, it is wonderful to come home to your comfortable bungalow at ‘t Lappennest.
